D-Day Poppy

I've always liked poppies, also for their use as the symbol for remembrance. They're growing in abundance at the moment everywhere there's full sun. But despite a few attempts they don't grow in our garden, probably because it's too shady.

Except once, when to my amazement I spotted one growing in the front lawn, back in 2014, glowing in a sunray through the trees. I suspect it grew from a seed mixed in with the earth that was brought along to stabilise a new underground heating fuel tank we had installed earlier that year.

The fact that it appeared on June 6th was especially touching. Today again being D-Day, I thought I'd post these photos in commemoration.
