My brother's missus gave me a newly-sown little tomato plant. And I found another sprouting onion in the cupboard so put it out in the light, waiting for a pot.

Last year's larger onion never produced any flowers but a succession of quite a few leaves. With the bulb shrivelling up while it did so until it was virtually empty inside the brown outer layers.
