The semiannual garden fair at Aywiers Abbey is this labour day long weekend. We decided to go on the first day to have maximum choice.
With the sunny weather parking spots were at a premium and several fields acting as car parks were already well-filled, but the missus always has luck in finding a spot nearby. Walking to the abbey gate we passed this dilapidated little station building - basically a lovely construction and an outright shame to see it in such disrepair.
At the closest little car park we saw the local scouts were making money as usual by carting purchases to buyers' cars.
Once inside the place was well and truly crowded - quite a contrast with last autumn's edition where the storm kept many people away. It being midday, our first order of business was lunch. Having queued for tickets and having luck with the card payment machine finding a connection just when it was my turn, we settled down in some deck chairs in the shade of a large oak (missus arriving with sausage sandwich at left).
Next we took a leisurely tour around the periphery first, with vendors of art and apparel and antiques (and awful kitschy stuff of various descriptions).
Bargain of the day was the missus, priced at only 29 euros!
